MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist Steroids and Metabolism (3 Year fixed term)MRC Band 4 Salary: £37,500 plus London allowances (£3,727 & £1,402) per annum London, UKA 3-year postdoctoral position is available at the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) to work in the Steroids and Metabolism group headed by Prof. Wiebke Arlt. The LMS is a world-class research laboratory where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. Funded by the MRC as part of UK Research and Innovation, the LMS has a collaborative working culture and new state-of-the-art building based in the heart of West London in the Hammersmith Hospital Campus. The Steroids and Metabolism Group, headed by Professor Wiebke Arlt, explores how steroid metabolism and function influences human physiology and health. Our current focus is on the investigation of the mechanisms that link steroids to human metabolic dysfunction and disease including interaction differences in the metabolic response to androgens. We use a range of human in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro model systems and routinely use mass spectrometry for the exploration of the steroid metabolome, often in conjunction with machine learning approaches. Our lab features two state-of-the-art liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry platforms (Xevo TQ-XS). We are looking for a self-motivated researcher with a background in analytical chemistry, systems biology or a related biomedical field. The candidate should have a record of accomplishments indicating the ability to perform analysis, visualisation, and dissemination of multi-metabolite data produced by mass spectrometry and experience with tandem mass spectrometry method development and validation. Applicants should have a track record of original research including at least one first author publication in a respected journal.
