Clinical Liaison Registered Nurse The Clinical Liaison Registered Nurse (CLRN) provides the highest level of professional nursing related services to patients, referral sources, business associates and internal operations. The CLRN is responsible for ensuring safe, effective and cost-efficient usage, education and training of infused or injectable medications to patients and their caregivers in either NuCara ambulatory infusion centers or the field. The field includes, but is not exclusive to, hospital or institutional settings or a primary residence. Responsible to: Pharmacist-In-Charge, Director of Infusion Services and Compliance Officer (per Site Organizational Chart) Work Schedule: Full-Time / Salary Duties and Responsibilities: The nurse must undergo the employment procedure as outlined by human resources. The nurse must operate according to the Texas State Board of Nursing rules and regulations. The nurse is responsible for ensuring that their professional license is kept current and displayed appropriately. The nurse is responsible for obtaining the appropriate number of continuing education hours as outlined by the Texas State Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations to keep their license in good standing. The nurse is responsible for all rules outlined in the Texas State Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations not mentioned in this policy. The nurse will become familiar with all pertinent company & site SOPs while assisting in the development and review of new SOPs. Documentation will be noted on training/responsibility documentation logs. Assist in training and orientation of new employees, performance improvement activities and informative programs Following established departmental rules, procedures, polices, quality-improving objectives, environmental, safety or infection controlling standards. Incoming referral patient medical records review/history as required: making clinical assessment and recommending appropriate therapy decisions. Assisting infusion operation with verification, guidance, chart review, non-pharmacist personnel support & guidance/direction and patient counseling/care elements. Administers infusion therapy to patients receiving specialty medications including, but not exclusive to antibodies & other biologics, antibiotics, TPN, inotropes, iron products, etc. Assesses and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and/or supervision of an advanced practice provider or physician. Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems. Documents & charts all elements of care using programs in place. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific differences in the patient population including physiological and developmental differences unique to each group. Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow. Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the pharmacy, physician or advanced practice provider. Assesses patient/family needs and provides education and teaching. Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals as necessary. Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a bloodborne pathogen. Maintains current knowledge of specialty infused medications by participating in ongoing educational opportunities. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. Managing daily and weekly schedule of care transition coordination, patient assessment and clinic duties, including one day a week in the Killeen clinic/area. Demonstrating and maintaining positive, informative interaction with ancillary departments, co-workers, business partners and referral sources. Coordinating patient activities closely with other field members. Interaction & demonstration/teaching patients, family members & other caretakers on initial admission agreement paperwork including: financial responsibilities & collection, therapy administration & management and troubleshooting while established on service. Intermittent direct patient care in infusion clinic as well as at home or other institution to include, but not limited to: line access care/maintenance, therapy education/training, monitoring & documentation of anthropometrics, vitals, labs via software driven programs Participates in after hour call needs on an as needed basis. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Pharmacist-In-Charge, Director of Infusion Services and Compliance Officer. The CLRN will also provide education on administering medications to other nurses. The CLRN will also provide direct patient care to infusion or injectable therapy patients and is responsible to assess actual and potential patient problems, as well as planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in coordination with the pharmacy & business development team. The CLRN has an active patient education role and interacts extensively with the pharmacy staff to plan and implement patient scheduling, education, deliveries, and documented clinical assessment. Skills and Specifications Able to use computers and software applications related to them. Knowledge of drugs, drug dosing, side effects, indications, contraindications and proper administration. Knowledge of patient history and care charts. Knowledge of rules, policies and regulations related to the disbursal of pharmaceutical drugs. Ability to train and supervise assigned staff. Excellent interactive skills with employees, physicians, referral sources, and patients May require lifting over 30 lbs, such as lifting patient supply bags/tote boxes May require bending during patient procedures such as inserting catheters while bending May require frequent use of computer keyboard for data entry, patient documentation, label preparations, etc. May require use of latex products unless non-latex is provided for known sensitivities Required Education and Qualifications The CLRN will be a licensed and professionally competent nurse in good standing with the Texas State Board of Nursing. BLS/ACLS certification, PALS also highly preferred Three years clinical experience highly preferred One year experience in acute care or alternate site IV therapy preferred Must be comfortable accessing patients of all ages
