Summary The Staff Accountant participates in all financial related activities; compiles and maintains accounts payable records; and prepares financial reports. The accountant serves as an auditor, ensuring that invoices are accurate and that proper accounting procedures are followed to account for the receipt of payment for goods and services completed by M. J. Kellner Co., Inc. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department Prepares balance sheets and income statements Maintains the general ledger Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies Accounts Payable Reviews all invoices prior to payment Prints and obtains signatures on all accounts payable checks Distributes signed checks as required Maintains all accounts payable reports, spreadsheets, and corporate accounts payable files General Support Assists the Chief Financial Officer as necessary Prepares paperwork for storage Performs filing and copying Other duties as assigned Competencies Financial Management Organization Time Management Ethical Conduct Thoroughness Critical Thinking Strong mathematical and analytical skills Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities at this time. Work Environment This job operates in a professional, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position sometimes requires long hours. Travel No travel is expected for this position. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Two years previous experience in accounting Recognition of advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite Preferred Education and Experience Five years previous experience in accounting Additional Eligibility qualifications None required for this position.
