Position Description The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Building Inspector. The Building Inspector positions will be conducting inspections to identify potential local, state and/or federal regulatory compliance offenses and violations of devices, structures, and processes; Advising corrections required to achieve compliance and enforces local, state and federal codes, laws and regulations; Conducting detailed plan reviews and checks plans at job site for compliance; Receiving and responding to complaints and requests for information from the public; Coordinates work with other City Departments and other agencies as needed; and, Preparing and maintaining records and reports. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. ICC Certification desired or ability to achieve certification within twelve (12) months of hire. Valid Arizona driver's license required. Desired Experience/Knowledge Ability to perform construction inspections on water, sewer, storm sewer, irrigation, and dry utilities, concrete, paving, signage/striping, street lights, traffic signals and landscape; Ability to verify traffic control and barricade set ups for construction projects per the approved traffic control plans, details, and specifications. Physical Demands Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Incumbents may be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, restrictive movement in work space, intense noise, travel and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.
