Lower School Assistant Teacher St. Gabriel's Catholic School seeks a dynamic, experienced, collaborative, and creative individual as our Lower School Assistant Teacher. The Assistant Teacher collaborates with the lead teacher in curriculum planning and reviewing lesson plans. The assistant helps to prepare the materials being taught in order to be knowledgeable of lesson objectives. The assistant works with the lead teacher to support student learning through whole class, small group or individualized instruction, and works in conjunction with the lead teacher to maintain a positive classroom learning environment to support the academic, emotional, and social development of students. This is a full-time, 10-month position that begins in August 2023. Responsibilities Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children by providing close supervision of children during all activities Assist in maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment Support curriculum implementation Assist in carrying out stimulating lesson plans that promote exploration, creativity, and discovery Support the lead teacher in providing differentiated and individualized instruction for remediation and enrichment Support the lead teacher in effective classroom management through Responsive Classroom and Progressive Discipline practices Attend all required meetings and professional development opportunities as assigned by Head of Lower School Participate in shared faculty responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School Participate in parent/teacher conferences, back to school night, and parent meetings Work cooperatively with other teachers, counselors and administrators Knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages and needs of students in the classroom you are supporting Build strong relationships with students, families, faculty and staff to foster a culture of respect and belonging Prepare classroom learning materials as needed Display and hang student work in classroom and on hallway bulletin boards Qualifications and Education Requirements Possess a growth mindset Experience working with lower school students Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work on a team and to collaborate with students, faculty, staff and parents A collaborative and inquisitive approach to teaching and learning A positive attitude and the willingness to approach learning new skills in flexible and creative ways At least two years as a classroom teacher Bachelor's degree required Ideal Candidates Ideal candidates for positions at our school are experienced in and continue to develop expertise in social-emotional learning, project-based learning, STEAM integration, technology-rich and differentiated instruction.
