QUALIFICATIONS 1. Valid teacher's license with appropriate endorsement including endorsement for Pre-K special education2. Strong written, verbal presentation and interpersonal skills3. Meets health and physical qualifications4. Dual certification in general and special education preferred5. FLSA exempt REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: To instruct students with disabilities in their specific skill deficit areas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Instructs and leads activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips2. Observes and evaluates children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health3. Develops Instructionally Appropriate Individual Education Programs (IAIEPs) to address specific needs of each individual student's specific skill deficit areas in the classroom4. Attends and chairs Instructionally Appropriate Individual Education Program (IAIEP) meetings5. Provides a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play6. Attends to children's basic needs by feeding them, dressing them, and changing their diapers (as needed)7. Teaches basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills8. Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order in the classroom9. Reads books to the entire class of students, in small groups, or individually10. Monitors students' progress to measure if students are achieving goals11. Assesses students' developmental and academic skills (e.g., adaptive, social, physical/motor) for the purpose of identifying deficit in developmental areas, determining eligibility and providing recommendations for placement12. Coordinates IAIEP meetings for eligible students with parents and other team members to present evaluation results and develop educational plans13. Maintains all special education paperwork in a timely manner including IAIEPs, reevaluation summary, student progress reports, student census, and annual yearly progress data14. Consults with parents, administrators, school psychologist and other professionals in order to develop Instructionally Appropriate Individual Education Programs (IAIEPs) for students with disabilities15. Develops daily lesson plans as prescribed in the IAIEPs from goals and objectives16. Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues, and providing services in compliance with established guidelines17. Maintains respect of privacy of students with disabilities and holds confidential all communications, observations, and information made by and/or between students, faculty, and staff18. Performs other related duties assigned by the principal and/or Special Education Supervisor
