About the Opportunity Having experienced significant growth in recent years and under new leadership, Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) is excited to embark on an ambitious plan to bring the Centering model to more healthcare providers nationwide. This inaugural Chief Development Officer (CDO) role, is an opportunity for a dynamic, highly motivated, and seasoned fundraising professional to bring the organization forward into a new, exciting phase of fundraising growth and institutional advancement. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CDO is responsible for building and strengthening CHI’s fundraising function and team of fundraising professionals, focused on earned revenue, policy and health payor revenue, corporate funders, individual and institutional funds and development, marketing and communications. The visionary leader stepping into this role will take CHI’s development initiatives to a next level, setting a vision for its fundraising strategies in order to sustain and support the organization year over year, including securing donors and contributions, while also expanding its work with individual, corporate, third-party sponsors, and foundation partners. The CDO will strategically elevate this critical organizational function and team’s capacity for the successful advancement of CHI’s work and mission. creating an environment that inspires relationships of collective power in the health system; and disrupting the structures and systems that drive poor health to co-create communities where everyone has an equitable opportunity to thrive Executive & Organizational As a member of the Executive team, meaningfully and effectively describe CHI’s program value and mission - internally and externally - to diverse constituencies, including providing ongoing consultation and project support around CHI’s communication needs and strategy Serve as the senior fundraising expert at CHI, advising various program directors on fundraising trends and best practices, and ensuring the Development department is poised to provide practical resources across CHI programs Promote and reinforce fundraising priorities internally and ensure all CHI staff are aligned on goals and expectations Forecast expected revenues from development activities throughout the fiscal year and regularly report fundraising progress to the CEO and Board of Directors Instill a culture of philanthropy in the Board of Directors, managing its Development and Fundraising committees and activities, as well as helping to recruit individuals with development and donor networks onto the Board Development & Fundraising Set the vision and direction for CHI’s fundraising strategy, including its revenue model and revenue growth plan, communication plan, and external engagement of donors Serve as the frontline fundraiser for CHI, collaborating with staff to build a diverse pipeline of supporters and donors and then cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and institutional partners Institute a robust program of individual and corporate giving at CHI through portfolio development and the implementation of a moves management system Establish meaningful relationships with existing and prospective top CHI donors, foundations, third-party payers, and community partners, including managing a portfolio of six- and seven-figure donors and prospects, and also supporting the CEO to manage their own strategic portfolio of top donors Oversee the operational functions of the Development team’s office, including database management, gift acknowledgement and tracking, and pipeline management Team Management Envision, build, coach, and grow/develop a Development team charged with fundraising for CHI including: development operations, individual giving, corporate giving, earned-revenue, government, and institutional giving Ensure the Development team is appropriately staffed and resourced to support fundraising priorities across CHI, particularly as it relates to stewardship and the management of donor information Set development goals, regularly monitor progress, and share results with senior leadership to ensure the Development team is on track to meet and exceed organizational needs Execute thoughtful systems and processes to measure and ensure progress toward fundraising goals Key Qualifications Track record of centering a compelling story of healthcare expansion and equity, especially as it relates to Black maternal health, in order to make successful asks Experience fundraising for national organizations; fundraising in the healthcare, birth equity or infant and maternal health sector(s) a plus but not required At least 10 years of experience as a senior practitioner of fundraising and executive leader, preferably in multi-faceted organizations with annual operating budgets exceeding $15 million, including a track record of working with and through other executive leaders, members of an organization, and Board committees, to drive organization-wide strategy Leadership experience should include vision setting, change management, innovation, and setting clear priorities, goals, and road maps at an org-wide level Experience with new business development, earned-revenue sales, and marketing and communications preferred Proven track record of raising six- and seven-figure gifts from institutional and individual donors Proficiency with leading the grant proposal process and successfully vetting grant opportunities that will benefit an organization’s vision, mission, and strategy Experience with fundraising databases and software required; Salesforce experience a plus Proven ability to build and simultaneously manage up, down, and laterally, and develop thriving teams of professionals at various levels of career toward executing a fundraising strategy and achieving goals while overseeing several time-sensitive and concurrent projects Demonstrated success as an astute driver of strategy, including managing teams and peers through strategic pivots and changes, and interdependent systems and processes Collaborative, entrepreneurial, highly motivated, and creative thinker who takes pride in their work and goes above and beyond to ensure planned results Strong communication skills and ability to build meaningful relationships with diverse constituencies, including existing and prospective Board members, supporters and partners Excellent attention to detail and organization; highly skilled in follow-through, communication, and project and time management Salary, Benefits & Location The starting salary range for the Chief Development Officer role is $180,000- 190,000, based on the qualifications and number of years of relevant experience the selected candidate brings. Centering Healthcare Institute offers a comprehensive benefit package which includes but is not limited to: health, dental and vision insurance, 14 paid holidays, 401k retirement plan with matched employee contribution up to 6%, and flexible vacation time (unaccrued vacation time that full-time eligible staff can utilize after three months working with CHI), among many other health and wellness offerings. The organization’s headquarters office is in Boston, MA and many of CHI’s team works remotely throughout the northeast. The Chief Development Officer role can be based anywhere in the continental U.S. and the person in this role will need to be able to travel nationally, approximately 30% of the calendar year, to various venues in order to meet with stakeholders. Work is sedentary in nature and performed in a remote office environment and will involve frequent phone and email contact with stakeholders. Vaccination Requirements As a condition of employment, each candidate selected for employment will be required to have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination prior to the selected candidate’s start date with the Company and be fully vaccinated (as that term may be defined by the CDC) within 30 days from that date, unless approved for an exemption.
