Description: This position includes merged job functions: Heat Treater, Rotary Shaper Operator A, and Fabrication Parts Former.Occupational Summary - Heat TreaterThis occupation requires the heat treating and age hardening and testing of steel, and aluminum production parts and their alloys, rivets, steel tooling parts and stock by such processes as annealing, normalizing, hardening, drawing, and tempering. It includes maintaining heat treat solutions to specifications. Work PerformedHeat treat production steel and aluminum parts, tooling parts, dies and stock made from steel or steel alloys. Determines the heat treat process and quenching required to obtain results. Determines proper timing and temperature of ovens, salt baths according to material composition, shape, size and thickness. Makes necessary allowances for subsequent fabrication operations. Determines proper loading to minimize warpage. Makes special set-ups from rods and straps to cradle and hold odd shaped parts. Places parts under refrigeration as required. Performs such typical operations as heat treating machine parts, dies, and tooling parts which must be held to exacting dimensions and which require no further finish or require only final or clean-up grind; heat treating of tool steel dies which have both thick and thin sections and are subject to considerable danger of cracking, shrinking, or warping; dies requiring sharp edges, such as blank dies, dies having compound contours that must coordinate and nest. Performs such typical operations as annealing and hardening primary stressed aircraft parts such as landing gears, motor mounts and landing gear struts which have subsequent machining operations. Anneals tooling parts and heat treats larger tooling parts according to established formula. Operates hand or power equipment to change furnace or bath and quenching. Checks and maintains heat treat solutions. Operates age hardening ovens by checking orders for correct material and preceding heat treat; sets controls for proper heat and time according to established specifications. Records treatment method for future reference, working with authorized liaison personnel as required. Selects and places shims to correct out of tolerance conditions from reference tables and written procedures. Identifies composition of unknown metals by spark or other tests. Makes hardness check tests and detects flaws resulting from heat treat.Occupational Summary - Rotary Shaper Operator AThis occupation requires the set-up and operation of various types and sizes of rotary shapers to shape flat and formed sheet metal, plate, extruded parts and other aircraft materials. Two years experience which provides knowledge of heat treating methods and processes and aircraft sheet metal hand finishing, bending, or forming. This experience can be totally from the outside or in combination with satisfactory performance as a Sheet Metal Operator, Code 526-3, performing router, circular saw, or other closely related metal cutting work or documented braking or forming experience as a Production Worker, Code 555-3.NOTE: Completion of a high-quality industrial-based machine shop training program which is typically 800-XXXX training hours in duration would offset six months of the two-year requirement.Employee must be able to read and interpret detail and assembly blueprints and understand heat treat specifications and nomenclature.GAhourly Basic Qualifications: Two years experience which provides knowledge of heat treating methods and processes and aircraft sheet metal hand finishing, bending, or forming. This experience can be totally from the outside or in combination with satisfactory performance as a Sheet Metal Operator, Code 526-3, performing router, circular saw, or other closely related metal cutting work or documented braking or forming experience as a Production Worker, Code 555-3.NOTE: Completion of a high-quality industrial-based machine shop training program which is typically 800-XXXX training hours in duration would offset six months of the two-year requirement.Employee must be able to read and interpret detail and assembly blueprints and understand heat treat specifications and nomenclature. Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
