As a national leader in providing superior electro-mechanical repairs and services, we are currently seeking a 1st shift Manual Machinist for our machine shop. Since 1981, we have been a family-owned company instrumental in keeping national industries operational. We specialize in building, servicing, and selling industrial motors, controls, gearboxes, and related equipment for advanced electric motor systems. Our Machinists play a crucial role in performing complex machine tool operations to produce precision parts for industrial motors. The position hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The responsibilities of the Manual Machinist position encompass a wide range of tasks essential to the production and maintenance of industrial motors. This includes setting up and operating various machine tools like engine lathes, vertical/horizontal mills, and vertical lathes, as well as interpreting blueprints to determine critical dimensions and machine setups. The machinist will be proficient in using precision measuring tools to ensure accuracy and will be responsible for setting up and performing welding tasks as needed. Maintaining low tolerances as specified in the drawings is crucial, as is determining appropriate speeds and feeds to achieve the desired surface finishes. Safe operation of forklifts and overhead cranes is necessary for handling heavy components, and the machinist must adhere to all company safety and quality processes. Additionally, the role may involve other duties as required, such as equipment disassembly, assembly, repair, and rebuilding. The ideal candidate for the Manual Machinist position must possess a strong foundation in machining principles and practices. This includes demonstrated experience setting up and operating manual lathes and mills, as well as a strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and problem-solving. The ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings is essential, along with the ability to understand both standard and metric dimensions. The machinist must also be capable of performing basic preventive maintenance on machine shop equipment to ensure optimal performance. Proficiency with precision measuring tools is crucial for maintaining accuracy, and good computer skills are necessary for documentation and communication. The candidate should be willing and able to work overtime as needed, including occasional weekend on-call shifts. Additionally, they must have the physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is the minimum educational requirement. While not mandatory, prior welding experience would be a valuable asset, as would a technical or vocational degree in Machining. Experience with CAD software and CNC machining would also be advantageous, demonstrating a broader skillset and adaptability to different technologies.
